En el reino de Xoana, Lina Inverse y Gourry Gabriev se reencuentran con sus viejos amigos, Zelgadis Graywords y la princesa Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune. Tras este fortuito encuentro, los amigos logran frustrar sin mayor dificultad los malévolos planes de conquista mundial del Rey de Xoana y su hija.
Poco después, se revela que Zelgadis está en busca del tomo mágico más valioso del mundo, la Claire Bible, con la esperanza de encontrar en sus secretos un método para recuperar su forma humana. A pesar de sus reticencias iniciales, el resto del grupo decide unirse a esta importante misión. Justo cuando se preguntaban por dónde empezar a buscar el legendario libro, se cruzan con un enigmático sacerdote llamado Xellos, quien asegura poderles ser de gran ayuda en su empeño.
