Usagi Tsukino es una estudiante común, un poco torpe y llorona, que siempre saca malas notas. Su vida, hasta entonces monótona, da un giro inesperado cuando rescata a una gata con una marca de luna creciente en la frente. La gata, llamada Luna, le revela que su encuentro no fue casualidad: Usagi está destinada a convertirse en Sailor Moon, una guardiana planetaria con el poder de proteger la Tierra.
Con un broche especial que le permite transformarse, Usagi debe usar sus nuevas habilidades para defender la ciudad de monstruos que roban energía, enviados por la malvada Reina Beryl del Reino Oscuro. Pero sus desafíos no terminan ahí. Para salvar al planeta de la destrucción, también debe encontrar a la princesa perdida del Reino de la Luna, a las otras Sailor Guardianes y al legendario Cristal de Plata.
