En Ciudad Muerte, la Academia de Armas Shinigami entrena a los Maestros de Armas Demoníacas, humanos capaces de transformarse en armas. Su objetivo es recolectar 99 almas malignas y una de bruja para que se conviertan en Guadañas Shinigami. Acompaña a Maka Albarn y su compañero Soul Eater Evans, junto a otros dúos como Black☆Star y Tsubaki, y Death the Kid con sus pistolas Liz y Patty, mientras luchan contra el mal y buscan la perfección.
