En la peculiar Villa Pingüino, humanos conviven con animales parlantes y objetos animados, creando un mundo de lo más singular. Entre ellos se encuentra Senbei Norimaki, un inventor con una ambición desmedida: dar vida a la chica robot perfecta.
Tras arduos esfuerzos, nace Arale. Sin embargo, la definición de "perfecta" de Senbei parece tener algunos detalles: Arale es terriblemente miope y carece por completo de sentido común. Para colmo, posee una fuerza sobrehumana que, lejos de ayudar, suele ser la causa de sus desdichados percances.
A pesar de sus buenas intenciones, Arale se convierte en una fuente inagotable de caos y diversión para los habitantes de la imaginativa Villa Pingüino, quienes deben lidiar con sus torpezas y su peculiar forma de ver el mundo.
